Houston LGBTQ+ Political Caucus Standing Committees
The Caucus is powered by volunteers, and our committees are at the heart of that work. We invite all members and supporters to get involved and lend their time and talents. Explore the committees below and find meeting details on the Caucus Calendar. We’d love to have you join us!
| Committee | Lead(s) | Focus & Responsibilities |
| Membership & Volunteering | Thasia Madison and Kendall Toarmina | As the engagement hub, this committee leads recruitment, retention, and the reactivation of inactive members. They facilitate streamlined onboarding and the credentialing process to ensure every member remains informed and eligible to vote. Finally, they manage the volunteer pipeline, routing individuals into leadership & service across all committees to fuel our collective political influence. |
| Fundraising | Jacques Bourgeois | Drives the financial power needed to elect pro-equality candidates and advance our mission. They manage the Equality Brunch, democracy-focused events, sponsorships, and donations. By cultivating donor relationships and ensuring PAC/C4 compliance through ActBlue, the committee ensures the Caucus remains a political powerhouse for the LGBTQ+ community. |
| Screening | Joëlle Espeut | This committee serves as the Caucus’s vetting hub, executing the candidate endorsement process with rigor and transparency. They manage questionnaires, screener trainings, and candidate interviews while facilitating the endorsement meetings where the general caucus votes. Through strategic deliberation and rubric-guided analysis, they build the slate that forms the foundation for every Caucus endorsement. |
| Elections | Melvin Roberts | This committee is our field operations hub, mobilizing members to elect pro-equality candidates. From coordinating site coverage at the polls to distributing endorsement cards and advocating to voters, they ensure a strong presence where it matters most. This impact scales through strategic phone banking and block walking with candidate campaigns, keeping the Caucus a decisive force in every election. |
| Communications | Brandon Mack and Melvin Roberts | The voice of the Caucus across all social, press, and web platforms. They manage our mailing list and content calendar, notably producing “FYI Fridays”—our weekly newsletter—alongside event promos, action alerts, and post-endorsement materials. They ensure our message remains clear, consistent, and impactful across all digital and print platforms. |
| Education & Advocacy | Nick Vaughan and Hayden Cohen | This committee creates programming that informs and empowers through policy education and community summits. They host civic workshops and lead voter registration drives to equip the community for active participation. By drafting calls to action and policy briefings, they mobilize the Caucus to stay engaged in the legislative process and drive change. |
| President’s Advisory Committee | Brandon Mack and Josh Mica | The President’s Advisory Committee is a leadership and feedback body that advises the President on areas of improvement for The Caucus and helps develop future board and committee leaders. Members meet regularly to discuss organizational priorities, member experience, equity and inclusion, and the political work of The Caucus. |
| Operations | Judson Dunn | As our technical backbone, this committee supports internal operations through data integrity and member onboarding systems. They manage the contact lifecycle and dues processing to determine eligibility for credentialing at endorsement meetings. By securing county voter files for targeted mail and SMS campaigns, the committee provides the critical infrastructure needed to reach voters and members. |
