The Houston GLBT Political Caucus Elects a New President
HOUSTON, TEXAS—The Houston GLBT Political Caucus has elected Frances E. Valdez to serve as President of the organization for the remainder of 2017. Frances is an immigration attorney who has served on the Caucus board as Screening Chair and Chair of the Education and Advocacy Committee. Frances’ election occurred at the August 2nd general membership meeting.
“We thank Fran for her hard work and dedication to the Caucus and wish her best of luck on her next endeavors. I am honored to serve in this role as President and to build on the work Fran has put in place. With such an amazing team by my side, the Caucus will continue to work to advance the rights of the LGBTQ community,” said Frances. That team consists of board members, Mike C. Webb, Jr., John Marron, Vincent Pryor, Jack Valinski, Alexis Melvin, John Humphries, and Brandon Mack. An election will take place in September to elect a Trustee to fulfill Frances’ position.
Frances was nominated for the role at the July meeting after then current president, Fran Watson, announced her resignation. “I have had the pleasure of working with Frances at the Caucus and on other advocacy projects and I am confident in her ability to lead this organization. In her role as Education and Advocacy Chair, she and her team worked hard on some ambitious projects and were successful,” said former Caucus president, Fran Watson.
The next Caucus meeting will be September 9, 2017 at Bering Memorial Church, where members will be endorsing candidates on the 2017 November ballot.
The Caucus meets the first Wednesday of every month at 7:00 p.m. The monthly meetings are generally held at the Montrose Center, Room 106, and 401 Branard St. Visitors are encouraged to attend the monthly meeting to learn more about the Caucus.
