Red, White, and [Ba]You, Caucus
- 4th of July Celebration
Friends of the community,
In years past, you have supported us and many worthwhile Houston community organizations. Today the Houston GLBT Political Caucus is asking for your support. The generosity from people like you has helped the caucus in many victories including:
- Helped get Ellen Cohen elected to the State House of Texas.
- Elect a pro-equality Houston City Council majority, including Sue Lovell and Controller Annise Parker.
- Opened up a dialog with the Houston Independent School District and its superintendent.
- A majority of the Caucus endorsed candidates in the past year won their elections.
- Interviewed Senators Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton before the Texas Primary on our issues.
The Houston GLBT Political Caucus has a vision for the future of Houston. During the 2008 campaign, our community will endorse and work tirelessly for candidates who will enable us to realize the goals stated below. Equality and justice cannot come too soon.
- We aim to cultivate an environment that offers GLBT people liberty, equality, and respect. To that end, we will continue working to elect courageous school and government officials that are devoted to progressing GLBT equality.
- We will work to elect a government that renounces discrimination in GLBT employment.
- We will work to elect a government that will provide everyone in the GLBT community with equal access to housing and public accomodations.
- We will work to elect school officials that are committed to providing GLBT students with a safe, welcoming learning environment, without discriminatory curricula.
As you know, ambitions of this magnitude will not happen without your support. This year, the Caucus is planning a Fourth of July Party to raise funds for the year. The party will be held at the trendy Rocbar/Mosaic on the second floor of Bayou Place, 530 Texas Avenue at Smith Street, across from the Wortham Theater. A pre-event cocktail party for our underwriters will include complimentary valet parking, open bar, and hors d'oeuvres with our special guests to be announced. Entertainment for the main event will include DJ Chad Guidry and vocalist Kenneth Gayle. The evening will culminate with the astonishing City of Houston fireworks from the Rocbar's incredible balcony!
We hope that you will consider supporting the Caucus with our largest annual Fourth of July fundraiser. The Caucus has many success stories; we hope to build on our successes this year. Your contribution will help improve the quality of life for our community. However, success completely depends on the generosity of people such as you. Thank you in advance for your support!
